5 Things I Enjoy Doing Analog. And Will Always Make the Time For

It’s not a surprise that I spend most of my waking hours doing something in front of a screen or being plugged in. But, I have a few things I do analog that I cherish and always make the time to do.
- Working out: Over the past few months, I have had the best workout streak. I predominantly do weight training and treat it as a sacred time to do something physically hard, as opposed to mentally hard. And feel great about it.
- Jigsaw: I started a 1000-piece jigsaw last summer, and it took me six months to complete. It was complex and detailed, but I enjoyed getting lost in it. The joy I experienced completing my puzzle was incomparable. I started my second massive jigsaw project the next day. I find working on jigsaws very meditative and a hugely worthwhile time to let my brain wander yet be attentive.
- Weekend Walks: I do at least one long walk during the weekend. And mostly with my partner. I enjoy the time we spend talking, reflecting together, or sometimes people-watching on the streets. Time moves slower on these walks, and that’s a feeling I treasure.
- Talk to my best friend: Once a month or so, my best friend and I have an almost 3-hour-long phone call, unhurriedly catching up on each others’ lives. We laugh, we reminisce, we reflect, and we debate. I always end my calls with her having gained more perspective on things I’ve been struggling with and life in general.
- Cook: When I cook, I often surround myself with digital distractions. But on the days I do not, I feel the most relaxed. I use my heart and tastebuds to freestyle a dish I enjoy so much more. I should do more of this in my life.
This weekend, I’m doing everything on this list. Here’s your reminder to do something analog this week. Connect with people and yourself, be offline.
