2 Areas I am Exploring In My Career Right Now (As a strategy consultant)
There are 2 topics I am actively thinking about a lot these days.
🗒️ Informal learning
I’m currently researching emerging purposes, mental models, and practices of informal learning (learning that happens outside institutional confines). People are motivated to learn to gain autonomy, manage uncertainty, and experience self-actualization — needs that traditional institutions fail to deliver on.
Disenchanted by this, learners have figured that the invisible lever that unlocks these opportunities is informal learning that can be dynamic (as opposed to stagnant), self-directed (as opposed to curriculum-based), and life-centric (as opposed to removed from everyday context).
The purpose of learning has evolved, but the functionality of learning platforms hasn’t. I’m thinking about how traditional learning platforms can enable this new purpose.
🧰 Explaining the value of strategic foresight
My graduate program trained me in strategic foresight, but I still struggle to succinctly explain the value of foresight to clients and stakeholders. The most common objection/ question I’ve come across to implementing foresight is this: foresight scenario planning can get super dark, super sci-fi-y, super quick — what’s the value for our business or project in engaging in such out-there, speculative thinking?
It would be great to connect with other people who are interested and thinking about these same topics — so if any of the above resonates, feel free to reach out!
